CHESAPEAKE - LaDell James Alexander, 78, of 216 Willard Drive, died Dec. 10, 2001, at her home. She was the wife of the Rev. T.L. Alexander, Pastor Emeritus of Central Baptist Church in Norfolk, and a member of the church for 42 years.

Mrs. Alexander served as deputy clerk of the Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court from March 1, 1962, until her retirement on July 31, 1988. Following her retirement, she continued to substitute for a number of years in the absence of deputy clerks. She was recognized by an Order of the Court in August 1990 for her exemplary service throughout her association with the court.

She is survived by her husband, T.L. Alexander of Chesapeake; her children, Zane Alexander, Joyce White and Jamie Griffin of Williamsburg, and LeeAnn McCall of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Jason Griffin, Christina Lewis, Ashley McCall, Donna McMillan, Dawn Swartz, Elizabeth White, and Wendelin Silliman; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by four brothers, Henry James of Coldwater, Miss., Luther James and Nicky James of Brighton, Tenn., and Billy James of Memphis, Tenn.; and two sisters, Mary Sue Blalack and Ella Mae Tanner of Brighton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church in Norfolk with the Rev. Lynn Hardaway and the Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Children's Lane, Norfolk, in memory of Allison Blair McCall, Mrs. Alexander's late granddaughter.
