OTTUMWA —Betty Arlene Durham, 78, of 173 E. Rochester died at 10 a.m. May 24, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born June 21, 1935 in Wapello County to James Oscar and Vetra Melrose Padget Covert. She married Raymond Dean Baker on May 17, 1952. They later divorced. A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she retired as the head teller at Commerce Bank in Topeka, KS. She enjoyed dancing and spending time with friends and family. Surviving are three children, Mike Baker of Cedar Rapids, Kim (Dan) Wilkerson of North Liberty and Chris (Susan) Baker of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Matt, Bailey and Miles; three brothers, Floyd (Pat) Covert of Blakesburg, Bob (Barb) Covert of Batavia and Bill (Betty) Covert of Floris; two sisters, Sheri (John) Guthrie of Ottumwa and Vicki (Ron) Rath of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Henry; a brother, Jerry Covert and a sister, Beatrice Yates. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Leon Wilkinson officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Private inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
