R. D. Carr married Hannah Haymond on 23 June 1842 in La Salle County Illinois.
They had three children. Sarah Marie Carr who was born 2 April 1843 in Northville Township La Salle County, Illinois. Jane Carr known in all records as Jennie Carr was born on 11 February 1865. She would marry James W. Reagan on December 30, 1865 in Illinois. She was then known as Jennie C. Reagan and they lived in Collins, Iowa. Jennie died about 1925. Their third child was Frances Marion Carr born on 10 June 1846.
R. D. Carr’s wife, Hannah dies in 1847. R. D.’s children are raised by friends and relatives. He is still in the area in 1850 census but leaves for California and becomes a minor in Sierra County, California.
He shows up in records in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Sierra County Census and then in Voter registration list in 1888. In the 1880 census and his last voter registration, he is living in Poker Flat, Sierra, and California. Poker Flat was a mining town deep in the mountains. It is now a ghost town.
R.D Carr did keep in contact with his children through letters and they were notified that he died in Poker Flat, California on April 23, 1894. He had a mining claim there but a note in the paper there says he died with no money and the county had to sell his belongings and his small mine to pay his burial and debts. The article and probate record only mentioned Jennie Reagan of Collins, Iowa as a daughter. His daughter Sarah Maria Culmer was also alive at this time but was not mentioned. In the Haymond family record book, they list April 8, 1894 as his death record but the California record says April 23, 1894.
After many inquiries with researchers, there is no stone for R.D. Carr but the records indicate that he was probably buried in Howard Flat Cemetery near Poker Flat, Sierra, California.
