He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he was a trustee. He had sung with the Melodaires Quartet, and the Servants Quartet of Marion, Ky. He was retired from Carolina Square Lumber Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Edith Meeks Haynes.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Pressnell Haynes; children, Roxie Lyons of Chattanooga, Timothy Haynes of Chattanooga, Russell Haynes of Chattanooga, Kimberly Anderson of Greensboro, N.C., and Kelli Anderson of Greensboro; stepchildren, Rev. Mitchell Corder of Tampa, Fla., Teresa Smith of Soddy-Daisy, Judy Gooden of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Bobbie Boulanger of East Ridge; godson, Eric Crabtree of East Ridge; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sister, Carlene Eldridge of Tracy City, Tenn.; brothers, Gene Haynes of Tracy City, Larry Haynes of Tracy City, Terry Haynes of Monteagle, Tenn., Gary Haynes of Monteagle and Kenneth Haynes of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.
