Darrell Ellis, 74, passed away Tuesday July 21, 2015. Darrell was born in the Forkland Community on October 12, 1940, one of 11 children of the late Cecil and Alma Whitehouse Ellis, Sr. He and his loving wife, Margaret Crawford Ellis were married 52 years. Darrell was a member of West End Church of Christ and was a farmer and carpenter. He was well known for the generosity and kindness he showed to everyone and was a gentle man. He enjoyed volunteering for community projects and at the Forkland Community Center and was a Forkland Volunteer Fireman for many years. Darrell was a Kentucky Colonel and he enjoyed spending time walking along the creek collecting rocks. He was an accomplished woodworker and spent many hours and days caring for Elder Cemetery. In addition to his wife, Margaret, Darrell is survived by his daughter, Darra Lea Thompson (Scott), two grandchildren, Audrey Edwards (Corey), Ben Thompson, two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Charlie Edwards, seven siblings, Jewell Deene Ellis, Shirley Sheperson, Wilma Rae Ewbank (Louis), Kaye Thurman, (Wayne), Karen Dru Marsee (John), Marlena Ellis, and Dale Keith Ellis. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Barbara Taylor, Cecil Ellis, Jr. and Barry Ellis. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday July 24, 2015 at West End Church of Christ with Pastor Rob Kernodle officiating. Burial will follow in Elder Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville. Pallbearers will be Ben and Scott Thompson, Corey Edwards, Dale Keith Ellis, Wayne Thurman, Louis Ewbank, and Clifton Taylor. Honorary bearer will be John Marsee. Memorial contributions are suggested to West End Church of Christ or The Alzheimer’s Association.
