Paul Raymond Wilkins was born October 23, 1955 to Keith and Aileen Wilkins of Mansfield, SD. He was the fourth child of nine and the second of six brothers.

Paul was baptized at the Scatterwood Methodist Church. All his schooling from Kindergarten through his senior year were attended at Cresbard, SD. In his early life, Paul was involved in 4H, and he showed an early talent in working with his hands. He had a fond interest and natural ability with farming, electronics, and carpentry that carried into his adult life.

From an early age, Paul felt connected to working the land and watching things grow. He was a passionate farmer who excelled at all aspects of farming, from tending livestock and raising crops, to bookkeeping and managing the business of the estate. He enjoyed attending farm shows and stock shows as often as he was able. He even became President of the National Farmer’s Organization for a time. Paul spent much of his adult life living and working on his grandmother’s land near Cresbard, and it was there – farming that land – that he was the most content. All of his skill and passion he passed to his son Raymond, who continues to work the land and raise livestock just as his father taught him.

Among his friends and the community, Paul was well-liked and highly respected. Everyone knew him for his quiet, strong, and stubborn exterior, but if ever someone was in need, Paul was always there. He was a compassionate, selfless person who was dedicated to helping those around him. He was an active member of the Richland Church, regularly volunteering as an usher and always willing to serve his church community. His friends remember fondly his pranks, jokes, stubbornesss, trouble-making, and orneriness, but one trait stands out above the rest: his kind heart.

Grateful for having shared Paul’s life are his mother, Aileen Wilkins, his son, Raymond (Sara) Wilkins, his sisters and brothers; Gail (Jerry) Smith, Diane (Tim) Graham, Roy (Lois) Wilkins, David (Nancy) Wilkins, Dale Wilkins, and Rita (Dusty) Walter, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Wilkins, his brothers, Wayne and Craig Wilkins, his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Bertha Wilkins, and his maternal grandparents, Arthur and Jessie Wells.
