He was born July 6, 1953 in Jena as one in a set of triplets to the union of his parents, Everette "Buster" and Grace Coleman Cooper. The other two triplets are Janice Cooper Stringer and James Cooper.
John was a licensed florist in LaSalle, Concordia and Catahoula Parishes since 1975, operating two businesses in this profession.
He was an ordained minister since 1979, last serving as interim pastor at Summerville Baptist Church in Summerville.
John is fondly remembered for his generous spirit, his great love of singing gospel music, his special touch for those in need, and his love of visiting friends and family.
Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 26, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Revs. Ricky Gresham and Jesse Henderson officiating.
Interment followed in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery of Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Simmons Cooper; and his father.
Survivors include his mother, Grace Coleman Cooper; two stepsons, Stephen (Kim) Cowan and Michael (Chasity) Cowan; sisters, Margaret Brummett, Marilyn (Mike) Callender and Janice (Dwan) Stringer, and Mildred (Fred) Powell; brothers, James (Glenda) Cooper, and Jesse (Pattie) Cooper; 12 step-grandchildren; 14 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and special friends, Terri and Dennis Wilson, and Angie and Terry Tiffee.
