Lucy Elizabeth Carnes Walker, age 80, of Greensboro, Georgia, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA. Born in Eatonton, GA on December 21, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Rufus Carnes and Merle Victoria Linch Carnes. She graduated from Putnam County High School and Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. On January 29, 1956, she married James Edward “Ed” Walker. She worked a while as a Registered Nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and then became a homemaker raising her three sons. While living in Doraville she was a faithful member of Winters Chapel Baptist Church for many years and helped with the Mothers Day Out Program at Winters Chapel Methodist Church, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Lucy”. In 2005 they moved from Doraville back to Greensboro and built a home on the Walker home place. When health permitted, she was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, helping others, but family was most important.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward “Ed” Walker in November of 2012; son, Gregory Alan Walker in December of 2013; sister, Gladys Carnes Walker; and two brothers, Lanier Carnes and Harold Carnes. She is survived by two sons, Michael Walker and wife Pam and their daughter, Sarah of Kennesaw, GA and Mark Walker of Greensboro, GA; sister, Lois Dial of Watkinsville, GA; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, (Greshamville), Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Fred Rowell and Rev. Tom Dial officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Larry Walker, Steve Dial, Gene Chatham, Alan Ward, Darryl Roth and Melvin Duvall. The Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at McCommons Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
