Obit-LaCygne Weekly Journal:
John Hunt, an old and respected citizen of Lincoln Twp, died of paralysis Friday night of last week at his home east of LaCygne. He was born on his father's farm near Elizabethtown, Hamilton CO, OH, Jan. 17, 1816, and removed soon after to Lawrenceburg, IN. where he remained until his removal to Linn Co, KS. Jan 1874. He married, Dec. 8, 1840, Zebuline, a granddaughter of Gen. Harrison and also of Gen. T.M. Pike, USA, who made the first authentic exploration of the country now called Kansas, and who fell at the storming of Little York, Canada, in the last war with Great Britain; by whom he had one son and two daughters.
His second wife was Miss Montague, of Boone, KY, to whom he was married September 2, 1849, by whom he had three sons, now residents of Linn Co. He was stricken with paralysis, May 4, 1854, from which he suffered until his death, June 11, at 10pm . He was buried at East Mount Zion Cemetery, Sunday, June 13. The funeral will be preached at East Mt. Zion church, on the second Sunday of July, by the Baptist minister, to which denomination Mr. Hunt's second wife was a member. Mr. Hunt's own religious belief was that of Christian Universalist. He was of that class of men whose worthy deeds and kindly manner draw friends about them, and who die regretted.
