Katherine S. Gardner, 81, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Saturday, July 18, 2015 in Scottdale Manor, while surrounded and comforted by her loving family. She was born September 29, 1933 in Braddock a daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Horak Sullivan. Katherine was a graduate of St. Thomas High School in Braddock with the Class of 1951. She had started work as a Telephone Operator for Bell of Pennsylvania and then went to work as a Nurse's Aid for Frick Hospital. She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant and served the church as an Eucharistic Minister.
Katherine will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving family, her children Katie Mack and husband John of Mt. Pleasant, Laura Pizzola and husband Michael of Scottdale, Nancy Johnson and husband Carl and George Gardner Jr. and wife Chris all of Mt. Pleasant, Jane Thompson and husband Chuck of Scottdale, Joseph Gardner and wife Heeun of Ashburn, VA., and Jennifer Emerick and husband James "Trevor" of Connellsville, her grandchildren Katlyn Mack, Katy and Nicole Pizzola, Emily Johnson, ChristinA Gardner and fiancee John Zemba, George III, Anthony, and Devin Gardner, Leah Tapper and husband, Kevin, Sarah Thompson, Jacob and Raigan Gardner, and Hillary Emerick, her great grandchildren Emma Zemba, and Dominic and Nona Tapper, her brother Terry Sullivan and wife Doey of Pittsburgh, her sister Ann Ruzicka of Irwin, her sister-in-law Mildred Sullivan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Katherine was predeceased by her husband George E. Gardner, and her brother Thomas Sullivan.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 2-9 PM in the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant (724-547-3800) where a Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, in St. Pius X R.C. Church , Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Richard Kosisko as celebrant. A committal service and interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. A Parish Wake Service will be held Tuesday at 4 PM in the funeral home.
