Funeral services for Annie Belle Phillips Hadley, 84, a native of Baldwin County and a resident of Mobile, who died Wednesday, June 21, 1989, were held June 23 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Bayview Funeral Home in Foley. Burial was in Wynn Cemetery in Summerdale.

Survivors include her son, Joseph Howe Hadley Jr. of Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Susie Baggett and Hattie Stewart, both of Bay Minette; three brothers, Jiles Phillips of Foley, Arthur Phillips of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Wesley Phillips of Pensacola, Fla.; and two grandsons.

Mrs. Hadley was a retired school teacher, having last taught at Azalea Road Junior High School. She was a member of the Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. After graduating from Daphne Normal School at age 19 she began teaching in a rural one-room school in Baldwin County. She later received degrees from the University of Alabama and Columbia University. In addition to several schools in Baldwin and Mobile counties, she also taught in Northport, Tuscaloosa, Tuskegee and Montgomery. Mrs. Hadley was the wife of the late J. Howe Hadley, who held many educational positions in Alabama and retired as Dean of the College of Education at the University of South Alabama. Mr. Hadley died in April. Mrs. Hadley was born Nov. 6, 1905 in Carney.
