Arthur E. Collins, Victor Resident, Succumbs at 89
Victor—One of Ontario County's and this community's oldest citizens died here at his home on High Street, Tuesday (Jan. 19, 1964) after a few weeks' illness He was Arthur E. Collins, 89, who was born in the nearby village of Fishers on Dec. 29, 1864, and had lived in the township of Victor, and this county all his life. Shortly after receiving his education in Fishers, Mr. Collins became the first rural mail carrier in this community, and at the time of the rural route inception he laid out his own routes. At some lime during his 31- year history on the country routes which he traveled with a horse and buggy, he had delivered mail to all corners of the township as served by the Victor Post Office. He became a charter member of the Ontario County Rural Mail Carriers Association at its formation and has been a member of that organization during its entire existence. He also was a charter member of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department, helping to found that organization 50 years ago, and had served as its chief at one time.
Just two weeks ago he had celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary with his wife, the former
Lillian Hunt, whom he had married on Jan. 5, 1898.
Mr. Collins had been a longtime member of the Methodist Church here and had served for several years on its official board.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Luther Moyer of Canandaigua; a son, Clifford of Mendon; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Cotton Funeral Home on Maple Avenue here until noon tomorrow. Services will be at Victor Methodist Church at 2:30 p. m. tomorrow, with burial at the Boughton Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Cecil Wilson will officiate.
