Geologist and Curator, Reeds received his B.S. in Geology from the University of Oklahoma in 1906 and his Master's and Doctorate at Yale 9n 1907 and 1910, respectively. After a short period of teaching at Bryn Mawr, he joined the staff of the American Museum of Natural History on August 1, 1912; he remained there until his retirement on April 15, 1938. Reeds was promoted to Associate Curator on December 19, 1917, and full Curator on January 3, 1927. As a member of the AMNH Publication Committee, he oversaw all the institution's publications on geology and paleontology.
