Sarah Morewood was the wife of John Rowland Morewood, 1821-1903, who is buried in this cemetery as well. Documentation for Sarah is amply provided by a description in Hershel Parker's two-volume biography of Herman Melville (2.551-55). The Morewood and Melville families became friends after the Morewoods bought Broadhall in 1850 and the Melville's the adjoining property of Arrowhead shortly thereafter. The Morewoods' eldest son, William Barlow Morewood, married Herman Melville's niece, Maria Gansevoort Melville, in 1879.
