This Davis family was Lutheran of German descent and the original surname was something that sounded close to Davis when said in German to English scribes. Mother of 10 known children: Robert, George, Joseph Jr., Abraham, Jacob, Mary Walker, Delilah Houston, Sampson, Davis and Andrew Jackson Fanning. In the Fall of 1819, son Sampson, age 11, was allowed to move to IL from AL by his older brothers George and Joseph Jr, against the wishes of their father, Joseph Sr. Apparently Sampson did not like his new stepmother. Barbara's known siblings: George, Joseph, John Jr, Jacob and Abraham Davis, Betsy Hutsell, Eve Wisely, Elizabeth Hutsell and Mary Fanning. Married Joseph "Fannon" on 4/8/1790, Montgomery Co., VA. This is the only known recorded marriage in the Joseph Fanning Sr line until the marriage of Mary Fanning/David P. Walker on 12/8/1821, Lauderdale Co., AL. Barbara named her older sons after each of her brothers except John as Joseph Sr already had a son named John (bc 6/1789-5/1790 per censuses) and it is unknown who Robert was named for since no Robert has been identified in either the Fanning or Davis family.
