Businesswoman/Civic Leader. Gail was an iconic businesswoman in the downtown Southington community for more than 25 years. A 1959 graduate of Southington High School, she launched her career with the opening of DePaolo's Fine China, Crystal & Collectibles in downtown Southington in 1972. She served as the chairwoman of the Downtown Merchants Association for 20 years, was active in the Downtown Revitalization Coalition and sat on the Advisory Board of DECA at Southington High School for 23 years. She served on numerous boards of directors, including the Southington Chamber of Commerce, the Southington YMCA, the United Way of Southington, St. Thomas School Association, and was chairwoman of the "Celebrate Connecticut 350" event in Southington. Gail served as both president and secretary of the Jaycee Wives during her 12-year membership and was an active volunteer for a number of community organizations including the Red Cross, the Southington YMCA, the United Way, Bradley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Bread for Life. For her years of service, she was awarded the 1991 UNICO Gold Medal of Honor, the Jaycees Woman of the Year Award and the Riccio Brothers Award for Outstanding Business Leader of the Year. The Southington Chamber of Commerce awarded her the Community Spirit Award and then renamed it the Gail DePaolo Community Spirit Award. In 1999, a year after closing her store, she served as the grand marshal of the Apple Harvest Festival parade.
