ALTO - Lewis McDonald, 76, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015, following a sudden illness.

Mr. McDonald was born on January 21, 1939, in Gainesville, the son of the late William Dewey and Laura Owens McDonald. He was preceded in death by a son, William Flint McDonald. He had served as a long-standing deacon at Enon Baptist Church and served his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. McDonald was retired from Northeast Georgia Medical Center. He was a “city boy”, that because of his love of his wife, Joyce of 51 years, he returned to their family farm operation.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Joyce Barrett McDonald; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Jerry Garmon, Gainesville, and Lisa and Doug Saxon, Alto; sisters, Louise Roper, Gainesville, and Linda Overby, Gainesville; grandchildren, Austin Saxon, Logen Saxon, Baylee Saxon, Sydney Saxon, and McClairin Garmon; and a great-grandchild, Ava Saxon.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 12, at Whitfield Funeral Home South Chapel with the Revs. Bill Carpenter and Doug Saxton. Interment was in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors and the Rev. Wayne Roper officiated.

Memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church, 7321 Old Cornelia Hwy., Alto, GA 30510.

Arrangements were in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
