Bill lived with his mother until her death in 1969. Born and raised in Chicago, he continued to live there with his wife Maggie until the last couple of years of his life, when they moved to Miami.

He was long employed as a laboratory technician for the American Dental Association's testing lab in Chicago. He was skilled at equipment set-up and repair and enjoyed tinkering with radios or other equipment from the time he was a teenager.

He was cremated in Florida and his ashes interred in his grave at St. Mary's.
