Mr. Monroe, 78, of Linden, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at his residence. A funeral service was held Friday, July 17, 2015, 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Young Funeral Home, with David Weatherly officiating. Burial was at the Dr. O.A. Kirk Memorial Cemetery. He was born in Perry County, the son of the late William Guy Monroe and Margaret Jo Middleton Monroe. He was retired from Johnson Controls and loved taking his John Deere tractors to shows and pulls. He also loved horses, gardening, and working with wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Martin Monroe. Survivors include his wife, Leola Monroe; daughters, Melanie (Terry) Gladden and Tina (Marshal) Qualls; a son, Greg (Nina) Monroe; grandchildren, Grant (Amber) Monroe, and Kyle and Zoe Qualls; sisters Wanda (Tony) Dotson and Nora Johnston; a brother, Ernest Jerry (Doris) Monroe; several other loving family members and many friends. Memorials may be made to the Gerald Monroe Scholarship Fund for FFA students at the Bank of Perry County.
