John Clifton Minton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2014 while traveling in the Dominican Republic with his wife Norma Jean Minton.

He was born in Elizabethton, TN the son of Pastor Vilas Minton and Mrs. Bessie Minton. John, or "Clifton" as he was addressed by most of his family, served as a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion Pickens Post 11, and a life member of the Ancient Free Masons Judson Lodge 319. He was a dedicated member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, and was always willing to give of himself in order to help others. John was a man of faith who held strongly to the principles of ethics, loyalty and taking care of those he loved. Just prior to retiring from his working career, he and Norma Jean moved to the mountains in Table Rock, SC where they could enjoy the tranquility of nature. Filled with the adventurous spirit, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and had toured throughout the U.S, and in almost every continent.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma Jean; son, Kevin and his wife Angelina of Greenville, SC; grandsons: Garrett, Connor and Blake Minton; and brothers: Phillip and Daniel Minton of Boone, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held April 5, 2014 at Holly Springs Baptist Church, 3450 Table Rock Road, Pickens, SC 29671. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM and the service will follow at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church for a new sound system. Condolences may be made at Cremation Society of SC Westville Funerals.
