Ronald E. “Ron” Powers Sr., 63, of Grand Island died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, with his family at his side.
Celebration of Life service will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with Daniel Naranjo officiating. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Powers was born July 16, 1951, in Grand Island to Robert and Anna (Berry) Powers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, LaDonna; children, Ronald E. Powers, Jr. (friend, Rochelle Bunner), Mandy (Terry) Reilly and Brandi Powers, all of Grand Island; brothers, Doug (Phala) Powers of Wyoming, Gary (Virginia) Powers of Colorado, Bobby (Cathy) Powers and William Powers, all of California; sisters, Mary Jane Powers of Bellevue, Beverly (Fletcher) Welch of Alaska and Katy (Rod) Howard of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Taylor Reimers, Tiffany Powers, Hunter Powers and Brayden Powers; step-grandchildren, Harley and Jett Reilly; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Ray; and two nieces.
Ron grew up and attended school in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High, Class of 1969. He was united in marriage to LaDonna Brandenburg on Nov. 21, 1970, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Central City. The couple made Grand Island their home and raised their family there.
When he was young, Ron enjoyed his employment with Conoco and Texaco. For several years he was manager for Abel Distributing and also worked for Sportsman Bar. Most recently, he drove for McCoy Transfer, Inc.
Ron loved the classic Mustangs and owned several over the years. He also enjoyed stock car racing and as a younger man was an owner and mechanic. His family came first and the Powers family cabin was a favorite place to hang out. He loved to tease his grandchildren and was always at their baseball and softball games. Ron was an avid Husker fan and the family would love everyone to wear their Husker attire to his service.
