Mrs. Elizabeth Brock Wellman, 87, former Ottumwan, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Baldwin, in Pasadena, Calif., at 1:10 p.m. Saturday.
She had lived in California since her husband, J. Frank Wellman, died in 1932, but had visited in Ottumwa many times.
She was the daughter of Shelby and Louisa Day Brock, born in Wapello county January 11, 1866. She married Mr. Wellman April 18, 1886. She was a member of the Christian church, the Order of the Eastern Star at Eldon, and the Daughteres of the American Revolution in Ottumwa.
A son, George B. Wellman, Ottumwa, her daughter in California, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters survive. The grandchildren are George R. Wellman, Arcadia, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Sandell and Mrs. Mary E. Ingersoll, Burlington; Mrs. Margurite White, Fairfield; Mrs. Virginia McKenzie, Detroit; and Mrs. Joyce Kearney, Pasadena. The brothers are Lloyd and Fletcher Brock, both of Wamego, Kan. The sisters are Mrs. R.B. Ralston, Hamilton, Kan., and Mrs. Phoebe Kersey, Manhattan, Kan.
Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Donald H. Gill, pastor of the First Christian church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Pallbearers will be Byron Gasser, W.F. Hendricks, A.M. Jackson, Jay Mills, Glen Sandell, and Paul White. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
The body will arrive at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday by train.
