Vachel Kirk was born in Jacksontown, Licking county, Ohio, August 16, 1832, and passed away at the home of his son in this city, October 13, 1916, aged 84 years, 1 month, and 27 days.
Mr. Kirk was a family of three children, his father dying before he was born. He spent his early life in Ohio, and was married there in 1857 to Miss Mahala Lawrence. To this union were born three children, one of whom died in infancy. His wife died in 1866. Mr. Kirk then came west with his two little children, bringing his mother with him to care for them. She died in 1886, since which time he made his home with his two children, Mr. Frank Kirk of Morning Sun, and Mrs. Flora Jarvis of Arkansas. There are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; there is also an aged brother. Mr. James Kirk of Leon, Iowa. The death of Mr. Kirk marks the passing of another old settler of Morning Sun.
The funeral was held at his son's home on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. Lloyd H. Lanning. Interment was made in the Concord cemetery.
