LYONS – Byron L. Gray, 90, died Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. He was born June 29, 1925, in Lyons, to Burt H & Minnie Belle Wharton Gray. He attended Lyons High School. A lifetime resident of Lyons, he was the co-owner of Gray's Men's Apparel for 25 years, and worked for Benefiel Hardware and Woydziak Hardware for 21 years.
He belonged to the United Methodist Church and American Legion, both at Lyons. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
On June 29, 1952, he married Nelda Joan Durall in Lyons. She survives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Krista Kyle and Vance Randles, Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Erika and David Duncan, and Ashley and Ryan Kerschner; four great-grandchildren, Kayli, Anna, Isaac and Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Deidre Ann Gray, two brothers, Lyle Gray, and Lauren Gray, and a sister, Evalyn Gray.
Private family graveside service will be in Lyons Municipal Cemetery, with military honors by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church, in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
