The Westfield community was saddened and shocked on Monday of last eek to hear of the sudden death of a highly esteemed resident in the person of John L. McDowell, who passed away at Belgrave on Monday, January 9th at the home of. his sister, Mrs. Josie Cameron, in his 67th year. His sudden passing was caused by a heart attack. The late Mr. McDowell was born 'in East Wawanosh, the third son of the late John McDowell and Ann Jane McClinton and lived all his. life in the township. He was married in February, 1912, to Miss Elizabeth Snell, of the 3rd Concession of East Wawanosh, who with three daughters, Mrs. Chas. Smith (Evelyn) and-Mrs. Gordon Smith, of. the 6th, Concession of East Wawanosh, and. Mrs." John Gear (Jean) of Kitchener, and one son, Gordon, at home, survives to mourn their loss. Also surviving are' seven grandchildren and five sisters: Clara (Mrs. Wm. Walden), of Westfield, Bertha (Mrs. Bert Vincent) of Marnoch, Josie (Mrs. K. Cameron) of Belgrave, Annie. (Mrs. J. Killough) of Dungannon . and Ella (Mrs. Lee Bair) of Milk River, and three brothers, Albert of Tuscan, Arizona; William and Alva of Westfield. Two sisters predeceased him,-Mr. McDowell was an active, conscientious and loyal member of the Westfleld United Church. He served his church as Sunday School teacher and as a member of the choir for many years, as well as being a member. of the senior quartette, For the past year. he was a member of session and he had been a member of the board of stewards for years. The funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon from the Westfield United Church. with Rev. A. G. Hewitt, the pastor, conducting the service assisted by Rev. H. J. Snelr of Exeter. Interment was in Ball's cemetery."
