Vincent Byron Bennett was the fifth child out of five children born to Irish Catholic parents: William F Bennett, Jr and Ellen E Cotter. Three of his grandparents (William F Bennett, Sr., Maurice E Cotter and Mary A Ronayne) were Irish born immigrants.

Like several of his siblings and father, Vincent joined the military. Father William F Bennett served in the Navy during WWI. Oldest brother William F Bennett III was a Lt Col in the Air Force who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Older brother Paul Bennett was an electronic technician in the Navy. Older sister Katherine achieved the rank of 1st Lt in the Air Force serving in both Korea and Vietnam.

Vincent's military service sent him and his family on extensive international travel after his service in World War II. He survived a B-52 plane crash, and likely saved the lives of crew members in evacuating the plane. While he sustained injuries that would affect him for the rest of his life, he did not complain.

Vincent was an active member of Rotary in Houghton, Michigan. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Vincent was preceded in death by his brothers William and Paul as well as by his sisters Marie and Kay.

Vincent is survived by his wife Lucile Marie Gervais Bennett; son Vincent B Bennett (and wife Murielle Gosselin), son Michael G Bennett (and wife Mary E Santos), daughter Maria E Bennett (and husband Ambrose R Hock), son Richard P Bennett, and son Daniel P Bennett (and wife Patricia A), and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
