Mr. Vernon Dillard Wallace, a Godly Christian man, age 88, of Rome passed away Saturday July 4, 2015 in a Rome Medical Center, following a extensive illness.

Mrs. Wallace was born July 16, 1926 in Floyd County, a son of late Robert Dillard Wallace, and Nancy Mae Towe Wallace. He was a member of Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church, and veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. Mr. Wallace was a retired tile contractor. For Mr. Wallace this was truly Independence Day as he will leave this temporal world of pain and suffering and join his Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior, awaiting mother and earthly father. He was preceded in death by Grandson Vernon Reddish, and a sister Sara Wallace.

Survivors include his wife Jackie Jackson Wallace, daughter and son in law, Shirley and Gene Wallace Smallwood, Rome; son and daughter in law, Perry Vernon and Shirley Wallace, Rome, special daughter, Julie (Richard) Wallace Nelson; grandchildren, Greg (Shena) Gravitt, Marcie Wallace, April Wallace, Billy Ray Coulter, and Eddie Coulter, brother, Gene (Carolyn) Wallace, Rome; 14 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Tuesday July 7, 2014 at Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Studdard, and Rev. John Vines, officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens, with Shaklin-Attaway Post Five Honor Guard of the American Legion, conducting full military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165. Mr. Wallace will lie instate at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Greg Gravitt, Bob Wolfe, Perry Wallace, Billy Ray Coulter, Richard Nelson, and Harris Bagley.
