VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY

Harry B. Benton for twenty-six years a resident of this city died on Sunday evening. His death came quite suddenly and was a severe blow to his wife and their many friends.
Mr. Benton had been suffering from a severe cold and while a physician had been called in his condition was not thought to be serious. On Sunday he was apparently better than he had been for a couple or three days but late in the evening he was stricken falling to the floor while Mrs. Benton was assisting him to a couch. He passed away before the physician arrived and it is thought that death is directly due to an attack of heart trouble.
Harry B. Benton was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 71 years ago in September. He was but a youngster in the days of the Civil War but he ran away and enlisted as a drummer boy and went into the great conflict along with the volunteers from his state. After the end of the war he came west working in various states and finally settling in Colorado where he took up mill work. On his arrival in Tintic in 1891 he worked as a mill man and in recent years he has followed mining being an employee of the Godiva Mining company at the time of his death. Harry B. Benton while of a retiring disposition is a citizen of which any community might have been proud having a reputation for honesty and fairness in all transactions. During his residence here he made many warm friends and retained them by his cheerful disposition. His death is a distinct loss to Eureka.
The deceased has no near relatives aside from his wife and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Fred Shontz a former resident of Eureka whose home is now at Spokane Washington. Mrs. Shontz came to Eureka for the funeral.
