Henry was the son of George Ancil Clark GRIFFITH (b. about 1820 Washington Co., PA; d. 1869 Yuba Co., CA) and Eliza Jane KITTS (b. 1819 Campbell Co., KY; d. 1888 Benton Co., IN).
Henry is listed on the 1870 census in Center Township, Ripley County, Indiana, as a 21-year-old farm laborer, living with his mother and his two brothers.
Henry was 26 when he married Evaline HUKILL in Ripley County, Indiana, in 1874. In 1880, he was in the same township, farming, and living with his wife and children Emma (4), Linnie (1), and Anna (6 months). In 1883, he owned 40 acres of farmland in Ripley County; his 40 acres was immediately west of his brother Jacob's 77 acres. Henry never reached 52. Before he died, he buried a daughter, a son, and his 39-year-old wife.
His middle name, "Mullan," is from his father's stepfather, Henry Harvey MULLEN (1792-1867). Henry was not a Mullen descendant.
His children were Emma Jane, Carrie, Linnie Loretta, Anna, Harrison Ray, Alice Maud, Arthur J., Bernice, and Bertram.
