Flying Officer Brown Sutherland lost his life in the crash of 3 SFTS's Avro Anso Aircraft. He was on a low-flying practice flight in Canyon Creek Valley when his aircraft struck a tree and crashed on the slope of Mount McDougal near Calgary.

Son of Brigadier General James ('Buster') Sutherland-Brown, C.M.G., D.S.O. and of Clare Temple Brown (née Corsan) of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; brother of LCol Malcolm C. Sutherland-Brown and Athol Sutherland-Brown, DFC.
