OCALA -- James Mitchell Yancey Sr., 73, a retired PGA golf professional, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at his residence.

A native of Tallahassee, he came here from Pompano Beach in 1970. Mr. Yancey was a member of First Presbyterian Church who was involved in a number of athletic events, including: lifetime member of Forest and Vanguard High Schools Touchdown Clubs; member of University of Florida and Leon High School Athletic Hall of Fames; distinguished service award from Florida Athletic Coaches Association; and golf professional and manager at Ocala Municipal Golf Course from 1970 to 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joanne S. Yancey, Ocala; sons, James Mitchell Yancey Jr., M. Wayne, Phillip G., Albert L. and Christopher F. Yancey, all of Ocala, and John G. Yancey, New Smyrna Beach; sisters, Mary S. Hartmann, Francis Y. Robinson and Jane Y. Sutton, all of Tallahassee, Susan Y. Perkins, Cairo, Ga., Betty Y. Allen, Harrisonburg, Va., and Joyce Y. Post, Panama City; and brother, William L. Yancey, Philadelphia; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
