Heinrich Wiegand was born in Niederaspha, Hesse, Germany on 27 November 1847. His parents were Seibert Wiegand and Elisabeth Seip. He emigrated to America at the age of 9, arriving in Baltimore on the ship “Johannes Wilhelmina,” on October 12, 1857. Henry became a butcher, apprenticed to Jacob Rapp. He married Jacob’s daughter, Julia, in 1870. Henry and Julia had four children, all boys: Morris, Charles, Samuel, and Harry.
