Giles William "Billy" Belew was born on March 28, 1938 in Madison County, Tennessee and died Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Maplewood Health Care in Jackson following a long illness.

A service to celebrate his life and legacy is planned for Sunday afternoon, July 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery in Huntersville, Tennessee. Bro. David Stephan, Minister of Music at Poplar Heights Baptist Church, formerly at Calvary Baptist Church, will conduct the service.

Pallbearers will be nephews Larry Sanderson, Clayton Sanderson and Cody Sanderson, Mr. Belew's cousin Wayne Lott, his long-time friend Bill Brewer, and family friends Greg Jordan, Jerry Powell and John Warmath.

Mr. Belew is preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Mary (Overton) Belew of Jackson and his sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn (Belew) and Billy Rhea Daster. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Eleanor (Coker) Belew of Loveland, Colorado, nieces Rheanne Daster Burkett (Jim), Carla Daster Sanderson (Larry), Leanne Belew Boyd (Mark), Lesli Belew White (Tim) and their children and grandchildren totaling 5 great-nieces and 8 great-nephews.

Mr. Belew became a follower of Jesus Christ as a child and was a faithful member of Ararat Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church until health issues prevented his attendance. He was retired from the City of Jackson and was a client of the Madison-Haywood Development Center.

The family wishes to acknowledge Madison-Haywood Development Center for their many years of service to their beloved brother and uncle. A special word of gratitude is extended to Maplewood Health Care for loving him and giving outstanding care to him.

Mr. Belew held a deep fondness for Union University where his brother, sister-in-law and 6 of his nieces and nephews attended. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to the Carla D. Sanderson Nursing Scholarship fund at Union.
