Miller died Wednesday, Feb. 21 at the Clara City Care Center.
Merle G. Miller was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Porter to Adolph and Della Miller. He graduated from the Canby High School in 1933. He entered the U.S. Army in April of 1941 and was discharged in Nov. of 1945.
Returning from the military, he operated a grocery store and meat market in Porter for several years. He was the Yellow Medicine County Veterans Service Officer for 24 years.
He was united in marriage to Beulah Olson on April 26, 1942. He was an active member of the American Legion, serving as the Seventh District Commander in 1967 and 1968. He was a member of the Granite Falls Fire Department for 20 years. He also worked part time for the Wing-Bain Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife Beulah; a daughter Nancy (James) Greenwood, Maple Grove; two grandchildren, Erin and Todd an aunt, Evelyn Ernston; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
