Lonnie D. Johnson, 74 of Alda died on Friday, July 10, 2015.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 16 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Lonnie was born on April 24, 1941 in Grand Island, son of George and Martha (Evers) Johnson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Geoffrey “Scott” (Deborah) Johnson of FL, and Cindy (Kevin)Burke-Adkins of VA; step-children, whom he considered his own, Debra Brokenrope of Aurora, Ronald (Deena) Starman of Grand Island; Angela (Doug) Woodward of Grand Island; Roger (Tonya) Starman of Grand Island; Randy Starman of Doniphan; Julie Kleint (Barry McGooden) of Grand Island; brother, Roger Johnson (Debbie) of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Fran Johnson of Grand Island; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his favorite four-legged companion, Max; and a host of extended family and friends.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; brother, Larry; step-son-in-law, Godfrey Brokenrope; and parents.
He was raised and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School. During high school he was on the swim team and worked as a life guard during the summers.
He was able to travel across the country, driving truck for Wheelers, and later on for Jim Palmer. Lonnie, or known by his CB handle, Camshaft; preferred driving to the west coast, especially to do some gambling in Las Vegas. For several years, he enjoyed partnering with his wife Bonnie on the road. They were united in marriage on July 10, 2004.
Lonnie had a lifelong love of cars, he enjoyed drag racing his GTO, or watching drag racing on TV. He spent many hours fixing cars, especially his GTO’s and Cadillac’s. He was also an avid republican and always up for a debate. Most of all, Lonnie will be remembered for his big heart and love for his family.
