CAPT US AIR FORCE KOREA

Harry J. Mason died July 8, 2015 at home after a brief illness. He was 84 years old and is survived by his wife Katherine P. Mason, his daughters Nancy Ellen Mason and Ann Elizabeth Mason, his son Stephen Clarke Mason (Mary Glenn), grandchildren Stephen Glenn Mason, Timothy Joseph Mason, Aleksandra (Sasha) Mason Breller (Mark), Katerina Mason Ponder (Zachary), Anastasia Mason Veal (Anthony), and great grandchildren Lily Zolina Breller and Emmitt Liam Veal.

Harry was a native of Brooklyn and Bay Shore, Long Island, New York, a graduate of Villanova University School of Business, Villanova, Pennsylvania, class of 1952. He entered in the US Air Force in July of 1952 during the Korean War and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in December 1953 in San Antonio, Texas. Following assignment to the Strategic Air Command at Lockborne AFB, Ohio, 91st Strat Reconnaissance Wing, he was assigned to Kadina Air Base in Okinawa to the 12th Aviation Depot Squadron-SAC. Upon return to the US and release from extended active duty Captain Mason finished his service to his country as a Captain, USAF Reserve's 514th Troop Carrier Wing and was discharged honorably in July 1966. Captain Mason remained active with the Air Force Association both nationally and locally as well as with the American Legion.

Entering the business world in 1957 Harry followed his father into the insurance business and became licensed in New York State, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. In addition to his business interests in insurance he formed Atlantis Yacht Corporation in Ft. Myers, FL in 1985 and Southern Pines and Plants in Tallahassee in 1992.
In recent years he also operated his own insurance business, HJMINSCO.

Harry was always willing to share his knowledge of many things and ultimately became a great mentor to young people interested in learning from his experiences. He had a great ability to engage anyone in conversation because he could always find a common ground to share. He will be remembered as a wonderful Husband, Daddy and Grandpop/Dedushka, and as a great friend whose interest in our lives never waned. We will be blessed with these memories and will keep him in our hearts forever.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL on Saturday July 25th at 10:00am. Following cremation the internment will be at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL and Oakwood Cemetery, Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. In lieu of flowers the family asks that remembrances be contributed to the Villanova University College of Business or their favorite charity.
