One of five children of James B. Warren (1825-1862) and Rebecca Smith (1828-before 1878), Walter William Warren was born in St. Helena Parish, LA. The date and place of his birth are not exactly known. In the 1900 census, he gives his birth as Nov. 1857, though that does not accord with all records. In 1850, his parents were living in St. Tammany Parish, LA but they had moved to St. Helena Parish by 1860. Bill's death date and place are also unknown. The last census in which he is clearly identified was taken in 1900 in McComb MS. But family story remembers him alive as late as about 1916 and he may have died either in LA or in MS.

On 13 Jan 1874, he married Harriet L. Gorman (1854-1889) in St. Helena Parish LA, a daughter of Thomas Kemp Gorman and Artimicia Staples. The couple's children were: Dr. James Walter Warren (1875-1956) and Alice Gertrude Warren Breeden (1877-1943).

A half year after the death of his first wife, Bill married Mary Valentine Kelly, a daughter of Daniel E. Kelly and Minerva Jane Forman. The couple's children were: Dr. George Edgar Warren (1890-1968), Harriet Rebecca Warren Lamkin (1892-1974), Dr. Daniel Davis Warren (1894-1973) and Johnie Pearl Warren Elmick (1896-1983), who was a Registered Nurse. Bill and Mary separated before 1900. His last certain residence was in 1900 in McComb, MS, where he lived with his brother Edgar Warren and sister in law Nancy Womack Warren in the home of their daughter Addie Magee.

His death record has not been discovered but he died after 1916. A descendant says her mother recalls that her own father remembered his grandpa (Bill) living on the Tickfaw about 1916 or after, probably in the old Gorman homestead.
