Philipp Wilhelm was a Hanau jurist and later the Steinauer district magistrate. His father was the pastor Steinauer, Friedrich Grimm the Younger (1707-1777), and his mother was Christine Elisabeth Heilmann (1715-1754).

Former County House in Steinau an der Strasse (today Brothers Grimm Steinau). Philipp Wilhelm Grimm studied law at the High State School in Hanau, the High School Herborn and the Philipps-Universität Marburg.

1778, he was court lawyer in Hanau. In 1782 he was town clerk of the Altstadt Hanau, where he in 1787 received the title of city secretary. Also In 1782 he was at the same time Landschreiber the Office Büchertal the county of Hanau in the Imperial Principality of Hesse-Kassel.

In 1791 he became a bailiff of hanauischen offices Schlüchtern and Steinau ordered what the family moved to Steinau an der Strasse in the local administration building meant. Philipp Wilhelm Grimm was not only chief administrator, but at the same time judge and notary of offices Schlüchtern and Steinau whose spatial area as the majority of the later, existing until 1974 county Schlüchtern equivalent, then in today's Main-Kinzig-Kreis opened.

Five years after taking up his post Philipp Wilhelm Grimm died at only 44 years old in Steinau from pneumonia .

On 23 March 1783 Philipp Wilhelm Grimm married Dorothea Zimmer (born November 20, 1755 in Kassel and died May 27, 1808). From this marriage nine children were born:

1. Friedrich Hermann Georg Grimm (December 12, 1783 - March 16, 1784)

2. Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm (January 4, 1785 - September 20, 1863 in Berlin)

3. Wilhelm Carl Grimm (February 24, 1786 - December 16, 1859 in Berlin) ∞ May 15, 1825 Henriette Dorothea Wild (born May 23, 1795 † August 22, 1867)

4. Carl Friedrich Grimm (born April 24, 1787 - May 25, 1852)

5. Ferdinand Philipp Grimm (born December 18, 1788 - January 6, 1845)

6. Ludwig Emil Grimm (born March 14, 1790 -April 4, 1863)

7. Friedrich Grimm (* June 15, 1791; † 20 August 1792)

8. Charlotte Amalie Grimm "Lott" (May 10, 1793 - June 15, 1833). On June 2, 1822 she Married Hans Daniel Ludwig Friedrich Hassenpflug (February 26, 1794 - October 10, 1862 in Marburg )

9. Georg Eduard Grimm (July 26, 1794 - April 19, 1795)


Note:
Friedrich Grimm the Younger (father of Philipp Wilhelm) was in 1777 buried in the new cemetery in Steinau outside the church, where his surviving children placed him a handsome grave stone. The grave stone in 1997, for reasons of much needed restoration and conservation, was transferred to the St. Catherine's Church, where he can be visited today. The graves of the Grimm family there in the cemetery outside the church have all been destroyed.
