Mason C. Hickey, 62, a trucker, of 2451 John, died in San Joaquin General Hospital yesterday afternoon apparently from injuries suffered when a heavy crate fell on him at McClellan Air Force Base Jan. 25. The family told coroner's deputies that he was contract hauling surplus auto and truck parts for a Stockton wrecking firm and was helping load his truck at the air field when the accident occurred.
A large crate, weighing about 600 pounds, gave way and fell on Hickey fracturing several bones and causing a severe concussion. He was treated at Sutter Hospital in Sacramento and transferred to the General Hospital Feb. 9.
A resident of Stockton 30 years, he is survived by his wife, Nita; four daughters, Barbara Clarke, Phyllis Clayton, Claudia Vallerga, and Margaret Basalto, and for grandchildren, David and Lois Clarke and Susan and Sharon Vallerga, all of Stockton.
Hickey was a member of the Teamsters Union and a past member of the San Joaquin Valley Rangers.
