ROCKVILLE - Mary Alice Barnes, 94, of Rockville, passed away on August 10, 2022, at Whitlock Place in Crawfordsville. Born June 16, 1928, in Valparaiso, Indiana, the daughter of Ross A. Skinkle and Blanch E. Ludington Skinkle. She married Dale E. Barnes on July 1, 1950, in Valparaiso. He preceded her in death on January 14, 2021.
Mary Alice graduated from Boone Grove High School and Indiana University. She enjoyed teaching at all the Parke County schools. She and her husband, Dale, moved to Rockville in 1966 where they owned and operated Barnes Mortuary.

Mary Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockville where she directed the choir for over 50 years and the Parke County Bell Choir for 8 years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary Alice was a 56-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she was a past Regent from 1997-1999. She was also active in DAR on the state level. Her other memberships include Alpha Delta Pi, Rockville Woman's Club, Current Literature Club, Garden Club, Tri Kappa Associates, and Methodist Church Service Circle, and she enjoyed socializing in two Bridge Clubs.

Survivors include 2 children, James E. (Caryl) Barnes of Lake Holiday, and Kristin (James) Cornelissen of West Lafayette; 2 grandchildren, Ariel Cornelissen, and Ross Cornelissen; step-grandson, Jason ( Michele) Johnson; and step-great-granddaughter, McKenzie. Also surviving are 4 nieces, a nephew, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 13, 2022, 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church,128 N Market Street, Rockville with Reverend Deb Hardin officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Memory Garden Cemetery in Rockville. Barnes and Rice Funeral Home of Rockville has been entrusted with arrangements.
