APLINGTON Florence "Grammy" Uhlenhopp, 96, of Marion, formerly of Aplington, died Monday, Jan 30, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, of natural causes. She was born Dec. 6, 1909, in Shell Rock, daughter of LeClair and Florence Fairbanks Bowen. She married Chris Uhlenhopp May 26, 1937, in Galena IL. He preceded her in death in 1970.
She graduated from Shell Rock High School and taught for 13 years in various Butler County rural schools. Mrs. Uhlenhopp and her husband operated the general store in Kesley until 1952. She then worked in bookkeeping for a small manufacturing company in Kesley and the Aplington sale barn. After her husband's death she helped in the Aplington flower shop.
Survived by: a son, Bruce (Ilene) of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren Preceded in death by: a brother; and two sisters.
Services: 10:30 am Friday at the Hitesville Gospel Hall with burial in the Hitesville Cemetery, both in rural Kesley. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Friday at the hall Memorials: may be directed to Linn Manor Care Center, Marion; St Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids; or the family.
