DEPORT TIMES, 27 Jan 1928, Friday

The Rev. C. W. Kavanaugh, 51, pastor of the Methodist church of Detroit, died Tuesday morning at an early hour after several weeks illness.

He is survived by his wife and several children.

Rev. Kavanaugh began his ministry in Arkansas 23 years ago. For a number of years he served pastorates in that state in the Protestant Methodist church at Cooper for three years. He joined the North Texas conference, M. E. Church South, in 1915 and since that time has served in the following places: Saltillo, Annona, Blossom, Chicota, Dodd City, Perrin and Barton. He was sent to Detroit by the last conference which met in Dallas last November.

Funeral services were held in the Dodd City Methodist church Wednesday.

Rev. C. W. Kavanaugh, pastor of the Methodist church here died at the parsonage at 2 a.m. He had been ill for several weeks but his condition was not considered serious until a few days ago.

Rev. Kavanaugh assumed charge of the church here in November, coming from Perrin, Texas, where he had served that church for two years. While his stay here has been short he proved himself a very popular minister and made many friends, not only in his own church, but with the public generally, all of whom grieve at his loss.

Besides his wife Rev. Kavanaugh, who was 51 years old, is survived by seven children; three sons married, one of whom teaches in Young county, two reside at Dodd City; one son, Allen is a student in Wesley College at Greenville, and two sons and a daughter are at home.
