She was born August 5, 1926 in Carnegie, PA, daughter of the late Gilmore and Beatrice Pugh.
On September 11, 1948 she married Charles W. Briggs, Jr., who preceded her in death.
She is survived by four children, Wendy (Ted) McDowell of State College, Robin (Rick) Elliott Chiocchi of Wexford, Jody (Joe) Curigliano of Moon Twp., and Heidi (Gerry) Hudak of Imperial. She was preceded in death by her son Charles W. Briggs III in 1997; also survived by her daughter-in-law, Toni Briggs of Salisbury, MD; her sister, Carol (Pugh) Mills of OK; ten grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole), Tim, Chris, Dmitri, Joe III (Brittan), Dominick, Gerry, Jr., Abby, Allyssa, Charlie IV; four great-grandchildren, Tyee, Connor, Aidan, J.P., and her nieces and nephews.
She attended Pitt University, and had several jobs in sales, as a dental assistant and real estate agent. Active in Carnegie politics, she was also a member of the Eastern Star, Greentree Chapter. A devoted family matriarch, she enjoyed the holidays and family celebrations. She was an avid reader and passionate about baking, bird feeding, her pet dogs, crafting and being outdoors, especially at the beach. Described as "sweet" by all who met her, she will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, Brodhead Rd., Moon Twp. Parting prayer service Sunday 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Private interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Human Society of Western PA, 1101 Western Ave., Pgh., PA 15233.
