Danny Lee Hunter, 64, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015 at his home from ALS.
He was born April 11, 1951 in Pocatello, Idaho the son of David Edward and Mary Josephine Ashton Hunter.
Danny graduated from Rockland High School in 1969. He excelled in football, basketball and track. He attended ISU and served as the president of the ISU Rodeo Club.
On September 10, 1971, he married Cheryl Mickelsen in Tetonia, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 19, 1989.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as executive secretary, Elders Quorum Presidency, Sunday School presidency, and secretary to the High Priest Group.
Danny was a 4-H leader. He enjoyed riding horses, working with cattle, welding, hunting and could build or fix anything.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a carman, but his true love was ranching and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Blackfoot; children, Kip (Brandi) Hunter of Pingree, Idaho, Kambrea (Brennon) Jones of Pingree, Idaho and Karlee Hunter of Blackfoot; brother, Gilbert Lynn Hunter of Rockland, Idaho; sisters, Donna Carbino of San Diego, California and Jane Nadine Bastian of Preston, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Bracken, Hagen Hunter, Dallie, Gracie, Daxton and Boede Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Hunter, grandparents, James Lehi Ashton, Jane Thorpe, James Edward Hunter and Mariah Jane Taysom, brother, David Jay Hunter and sister, LaVerl Ralphs.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Moreland LDS Chapel with Bishop Brad Adams conducting.
The family will meet with friends on Friday evening, July 17, 2015 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Rockland, Idaho at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015.
