She was born in Sanford, FL to the late John J. Matthews and Maude Brooks Matthews. She graduated from Seminole High School in 1946 where she sang in the glee club and earned honors as a senior superlative. She moved to Waycross shortly after high school graduation in 1946 where she resided for the rest of her life.
She worked in business administration for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company for 33 years. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Keenagers Sunday School Class and the Chancel Choir. She was also a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, where she held numerous offices including president and local bridge clubs.
Survivors include her sons, Richard "Ric" Wilson, Waycross, Ben H. "Tripp" Wilson, Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Zona Beckwith and her husband Arthur, Sanford, FL and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and special friends Angie Williams, Waycross and Sherwn Salla of Jacksonville.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, July 12) from the Trinity United Methodist Church.
Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
