Corene Oveta Altman Ricks, 82, of Blackshear died Sunday evening, July 9, 2006, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross following an extended illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Ricks; her parents, Joseph Richard Altman and Nancy Jane Clark Altman; a son, J.D. Strickland, and a daughter, Janie Boyd.

She was employed with King Edward Cigar Company for 20 years and then went to work at the Pierce County Courthouse as a custodian for many years until her illness. She was an avid gardener and sold plants for many years at her home. She was a long-time member of Walkerville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her six sons, Roy Strickland, Waycross, Troy Strickland (wife Laverne), Waycross, McCoy Strickland (wife Alice), Blackshear, Ronnie Strickland, Jacksonville, FL, Gary Cox (wife Kathy) Blackshear and Terry Taylor, Blackshear, 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 12) from the chapel of Smith Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
