She was the daughter of William Van Davis and Susannah M. "Sue" Porter. Her father named her for the woman who nursed his wounds in Tennessee during the Civil War. She was a school teacher in Attala County, MS. In 1910 she married Curtis G. Boyett. She died three days after giving birth to their child, Rebecca Reid Boyett.
