Gustav Jost was born in Bremahaven Germany to Prussion parents. He maried Katrina in 1879. She bore him a son Bernard, and two daughters, Bertha and Lena. Upon her early death at the age of 36, Gustav with his 3 young children sailed on a steamship bound for the United States in 1901. Gustav was a cabinet maker in his native Germany. After passing through Ellis Island he settled in Perth Amboy with his 3 children. He started his own business as a general contractor and builder. He later met and married Mina and she bore him a daughter named Gretchen. The family lived in many homes throughout Perth Amboy that he himself constucted. He moved his family to the hamlet of Woodbridge the late twenties. He purchased 5 lots on the corner of Rahway and Schoder Ave. Four homes were built to house the clan. Gustav was a Free Mason and retired in 1946 to the state of Virginia. He passed away in 1951.
