"Bill" was born Fred Robert Foster Jr to Fred R Foster and Mary Fay Raney-Crow. Approximately at age 2 his parents divorced and subsequently he was adopted by some fine people William Montgomery Underwood and Cora Lucille Bergin of Houston, who changed his name to William Lea Underwood. His natural mother continued to raise a sister named Paulynn "Polly" Foster Clark, though their youngest infant daughter Margaret was adopted by a couple from church. To this day, we have not found her yet.

Bill met Leland Ann O'Neal at Abilene Christian College. They were married for 13 years and had 4 children, Craig Brent Underwood, Phillip Craig Underwood, Shelly Denise Pifer and Stacy Anne Kuta. He remarried a couple more times but didn't have more children. Bill kept in touch with his sons and little is known about his life, even though we all lived in the same state or close-by all of our lives. I understand in his last years, Brent became closer as he was no longer independent. RIP Bill.
