Mrs. Lassiter was born on September 29, 1927 in Pickens County, SC a daughter of the late James Benjamin and Etta (Lee) Sutherland. She was a former clothing inspector for Jeanette Maternities of High Point, but spent the majority of her years as a homemaker.
Mrs. Lassiter was a faithful member of Landmark Baptist Church where participated in their adult Sunday school class.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, shopping, but mostly taking care of her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Lassiter is survived by five children, Grayson Ward and his wife, Eileene, Patsy Waldroup and her husband, Colin, Barbara McGee and her husband, Randall and Richard Ward and his wife, Elaine, and Sameena Khan and her husband, Banaras; fourteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn McAlister; two brothers, Elmer Sutherland and Robert Sutherland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Milliner “Bud” Graves Ward; her second husband Robert Lassiter; five sisters; and four brothers.
A celebration of life service will be 11:00 a.m., July 13, 2015 at Landmark Baptist Church with Rev. Amos Mashburn and Rev. Steve Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Rd., Archdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennybyrn at Maryfield, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260.
